The 7th International Conference on Molecularly Imprinted Polymers – Science and Technology – MIP2012 took place in Paris, France from 27th to 30th August 2012. The conference was organized by Prof. Karsten Haupt from the Centre Centre Nationale de la Recherche Scientifique at Compiègne University of Technology and Dr Valérie PICHON from ESPCI ParisTech (École Supérieure de Physique et de Chimie Industrielles).
About 200 participants from across Europe and the world came to one of the biggest MIP conference in the world. MIP2012 brought together pioneer and renowned worldwide scientists and promising young researchers to meet and discuss issues of current innovation in the field of molecular imprinting. The conference was a great opportunity for networking, especially for the Marie-Curie Fellows and their future career.
Marie Curie Fellow, Dr Serena Ambrosini, helped with the organization of the conference. This gave her a great deal of experience in organizing a big international conference from beginning to end.
The conference was opened by Prof. Karsten Haupt who welcomed all the scientists and thanked them for sharing and presenting their work and results during these four days.
The programme of the conference was very intensive with 48 oral presentations and discussions taking place, plus 130 poster presentations split over two sessions. The large number of presentations and discussions were of great interest and inspiring to young scientists. The poster sessions were an opportunity to exchange information and get feedback on the latest research progress.
The Keynote Lecture by Dr Marina Resmin from Queen Mary, University of London, entitled: “Metal coordination geometry vs template: Impact on teh phosphatase-like activity of imprinted nanogels” was innovative and created interests among the audience. The Industrial Session held by POLYINTELL was well attended. Kaynoush Naraghi, co-founder and President of the company, with an entrepreneurial esprit, gave a talk entitled: “POLYINTELL – A MIP sucess story” that was very uplifting and motivating to young scientists willing to further their career in Industry. After these three days hard work the participant where taken to a cruise on the river Seine and a gala dinner in a famous French cabaret.
The conference was successful and informative. Researchers left with full of new ideas to try in their labs. All participants returned to their home country very satisfied and they look forward to meeting again at the next MIP2014 in China with more results.
